About the Artist
Hi, I’m Shellayne Henson.
I am a self taught artist painting from the clouds of Kentucky.
Just a farm girl, that loves the roll of a hill, grove of trees, hay field, stormy skies, This is my Fathers world.
My process comes from pictures I’ve taken in the countryside, the farm I grew up on and the clouds outside my door. Although I am drawn to moody blues and greys, earthy tones of green and yellow, occasionally the sunsets here will be so pink I will have to have pink somewhere in the paintings.
I grew up poor on a farm in Maryland, but I didn’t really know how poor. My mom could make something out of nothing, and my father was proud of you if you just tried, he would always say don’t worry about failing, the only people who never fail , never try to do anything. , it’s what lends to my desire to create, taking what I had and trying to make it better. I love to forage in the woods, acorns , pine cones, leaves , even weeds can be beautiful. My favorite thing to create is a home. My husband and I, our first home was an awful trailer that hadn’t been lived in for a long time. I painted the walls , made curtains, baked, planted flower and vegetable gardens. My painting level, I painted landscapes on our trash cans. I created a Home.
That’s what art is to me, a way to feather the nest. I have struggled with ADHD my entire life, I have been a florist , painted cakes, photographer, and although I still love the creative elements of all of those things painting is what calms my mind the most. Sometimes I listen to music, a podcast, or bible study, but many days I paint in silence, painting allows me to just , be. It’s a chaotic world . Your home is a haven from that, I paint to bring a calm, peaceful, serene atmosphere an added element to your home.
As I draw close to the reality of becoming an empty nester, my daughters are setting their own course, I have emerged the artist creator I always dreamed to be.
I love vintage with new and hope the colors and impression of my pieces bring the joy of something new and the feeling it’s just always been there.
I live in Madisonville , Kentucky with my husband , two of three daughters, when they’re home.
